1. Getting to Culion means taking a one hour puddle jumper from Manila to the Busuanga airstrip on Busuanga island. From there, you take a one hour jeepney ride to Coron Town and then a two hour banca ride to Culion Town in Culion Island.
2. Most of Culion is built on the side a large hill. Narrow roads wind up and down the hill and concrete steps have been placed on the hillside for pedestrian shortcuts. At one point, the more than 300 year old Culion church, converted from a fort built by the Spanish to ward off attacks by seafaring Muslims, was the highest point on the island. Now, it is dwarfed by the SMART cell phone tower which sits on top of the hill overlooking Culion. GLOBE, the other national cell phone carrier, is building a tower that will be taller than the one owned by SMART.
3. The overwhelming majority of the records from the Culion Leper Colony are stored in the laundry room of the Culion Sanitarium and General Hospital.
4. From the lookout tower of the Culion church stands neighbouring islands inhabited mostly by natives, the Tanguays, who come to Culion to sell fish or to pump drinkable water.
5. A job ad for an unstated position that pays approximately USD$12 per month.
